Press Release: Bath Fitter Survey - Homeowners Love to Love Their Bathrooms
Most Want to Remodel, Are Daunted by Perceived Cost
(Springfield, TN) - While most homeowners (76 percent) say it’s extremely or very important that they’re satisfied with the bathroom(s) in their home, less than half (44 percent) actually are. And most (84 percent) want to change something about their bathrooms, but about nine in ten of those who do (89 percent) see many barriers to actually doing so. Mostly, they believe it would be too expensive and they can’t afford it.
According to a survey of U.S. adults, including a majority of whom own their primary residence, conducted by Harris Interactive® for Bath Fitter, two in three homeowners who would like to change something about their bathrooms (66 percent) say cost prevents them from remodeling. Still, most adults (82 percent) love the feeling of taking a long, relaxing shower or bath and nearly one-third (31 percent) actually consider the bathroom their sanctuary.
The survey was conducted as part of Bath Fitter’s 25th year anniversary, marking a quarter century of bathtub and shower options that can make those dreams of luxurious baths come true.
Other survey findings:
•About half of homeowners (49 percent) want to change something about their bathtubs or showers. Specifically, 18 percent want to change the tub; 13 percent want to change the shower; 18 percent want to change the walls in the tub or shower area; 15 percent would like to “cover up” damage to the existing tub or standing shower walls; and 5 percent want to convert their tub to a standing shower.
• Among adults ages 55+ in particular, most of whom are homeowners, 15 percent would like to improve the safety of the bathrooms(s) by installing handrails in the bathtub or shower, which can help avoid injury.
• One in three adults (33 percent) would spend more time in their bathrooms if they had a nicer bathroom.
• Married adults are more likely than those who have never been married to say they spend only as much time as they need to in their bathroom (87% married vs. 80% single, never married).
• Single adults are more likely than their married counterparts to admit that they already spend too much time in their bathroom (20% single vs. 11% married) and would spend even more time in their bathroom if it was nicer (41% single vs. 31% married).
“We’re thrilled that the survey numbers support our deep commitment to consumers for 25 years,” says Eric Saviskas, General Manager of Retail Operations at Bath Fitter. “We’ve been engineering and refining our line of products, believing consumers want an alternative to costly and time-consuming bathroom renovation. The survey results tell us that we’ve been on the right track all along.”
While Bath Fitter doesn’t claim to have invented the modern bathroom, it did have a hand in inventing modern bathroom remodeling, improving on the traditional, decades-old practice of using a wrecking ball, numerous materials and various tradesmen over several weeks’ time. With Bath Fitter, impressive bathroom remodeling is done in one day and at a fraction of the cost.
