Creating More Storage Space in Small Bathrooms

Posted by on October 16, 2013 1:15 PM

Unless you have an open plan bathroom,  space is often at a premium in the bathroom. As a result, storage can be an issue…but it doesn't have to be impossible. With some crafty arrangement and smart purchasing, you can create storage space without compromising the look and feel of your bathroom.

Outside of the shower is where you would typically find the space for storing things like extra shampoo, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc.  On the walls you can hang cabinets and shelves. In open corners you can place corner shelving units and drawers for towels and wash clothes. You can even go vertical by storing things above the eye line that you don’t use every day. What happens, though, when you've run out of room?

An idea employed by some homeowners, and highlighted in detail by HGTV, is the option to make storage available inside the shower or bath.  Instead of cramming all of the shower products on the sides of the tub, on the floors of the shower, and any available space you can find, why not try out a shower caddy? Shower caddies can be inexpensive, yet extremely innovative.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to different designs and models of shower caddies. The good thing about all of them is that they are out of your way, and out of sight with a simple close of the shower curtain/door.  Options range from corner caddies, to hanging caddies to wall mounted caddies.

Corner shower caddies fit right in between the base of the tub and the wall to ensure a stable place to store shower products. Hanging shower caddies hang from the shower head, fitting right up against the wall. Lastly, wall mounted shower caddies are exactly what they sound like. Mounted to the wall can be a shower caddy basket, or even an array of shelves, allowing more storage for the things you need.

Storing everything that you want in a bathroom can be challenging, especially if you’re looking to maintain some semblance of style. That’s why it’s important to be smart and creative about your storage. The results can be very rewarding! Good luck in your effort to create more space and keep a stylish bathroom.
