It's been said that necessity is the mother of invention. Nowhere is that more apparent than in the roots of BATH FITTER, North America's leading manufacturer of acrylic bathtub liners, walls and shower bases.

The idea for the company came from personal experience - in this case a battle with a stubborn bathroom - that prompted Brian Cotton to seek out a better way to undertake bathroom remodeling. Amidst the broken pieces of drywall and shards of tile that littered the bathroom that afternoon, an idea was born - an acrylic bath tub lining also known as bath tub liner that would fit right over an existing bath tub since all the bath tubs are made of acrylic, it feels like new bath tub, eliminating the need for messy and expensive bathroom renovations.

Brian was joined by brothers Wayne and Glenn, and they conducted several months of research and experimentation. In 1984, their new company, BATH FITTER, produced its first bath tub liners in Montreal, Canada.

In 1987, BATH FITTER moved into its first free-standing manufacturing facility.

As the number of molds in the company's inventory began to grow, efforts were increasingly directed at the residential market. The company rapidly introduced additional innovative products, including one-piece seamless bath and shower walls, shower base liners, bath tub including bath tub liner and free-standing tubs and showers.
